Area Sales & Marketing Representative 

Job Description

Position Objective:

To grow the AVAILABILITY and VISIBILITY of Utah Brewers Cooperative beers in the marketplace via direct account visits to targeted, pre-planned accounts while selling against a predetermined Sales Plan co-created by the Sales & Marketing Representative and the National Sales Director.

Sales Territory:

  • Utah Territory

Primary Responsibilities & Specific Duties:

  • New Business: Obtain new draft and bottle placements in new accounts- a core responsibility of the role.
  • Existing Business: Maintain existing accounts, especially high volume customers, with frequent visits with the intent of keeping our current business and adding business.
  • Education & Tastings: Conduct staff education for retail wait-staff and distributor sales forces as well as perform consumer tastings (on and off premise).
  • Merchandising: Use Point-of-Sale pieces to make the brewery competitive in visibility vs. other benchmark brands; improve position of UBC beers on shelves and on draft; build displays.
  • Quality: Ensure products are fresh in all accounts by checking freshness dates.
  • Distributor Ride-Alongs: Call on retail accounts with distributors' salespeople.
  • Events/Promotions: At times there will be weekend and evening brewery or account-level events that the Salesperson would need to attend.
  • Documentation: Account visit tracking (the "Sales Plan") must be delivered to the National Sales Director on Mondays by 10am MST every other week.

 

Core Competencies, Critical Skills, Requirements:

  1. Knowledge
  • University or college degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of direct work experience in sales, marketing, or customer service.
  • Basic beer and industry knowledge.  Homebrewing experience is a huge plus.
  • Tips and Cicerone certifications also desirable.
  • Organization- buttoned up planning and follow up skills.
  • Motivating/Team Building- public speaking.
  • Relationship building- with customers, retail staff... that can go beyond a business relationship.
  • Functional skills- Microsoft Office, basic math.
  • Selling Skills.
  • Problem Solving and Judgment.

Expectations:

  1. Make 30 sales calls per week with the      following guidelines:
    • 30% of these should be as set       appointments.
    • 50% of calls should be on-premise,       50% off-premise.
    • Off-Premise/On-Premise: the top 20       accounts in each premise should be seen monthly.
    • Salespeople will use print, internal       sales information, etc... to find accounts to target for sales calls.
  2. Preparation: Be prepared at all times      with sales materials and POS pieces.
  3. Documentation: Sales Plan results and      expenses to be submitted on time.
  4. Results: Average 75%+ execution      against specific Sales Plan objectives.
  5. Attitude: Operate in an honest,      transparent, and positive fashion with all Sales & Marketing      Representative interactions.
  6. Responsibility: Be responsible with      alcohol.

Compensation:

  • Base salary (Full-time, 40+ hours).
  • Quarterly bonus plan.
  • Vacation & Health Insurance Benefits are offered in accordance with the UBC standard policies.

Expenses:

  • A monthly car allowance will be paid by UBC.
  • Cell phone expenses will be paid in full by UBC if the employee is on UBC's corporate plan.
  • Territory expenses will only be reimbursed if received by the 20th each month for the previous month's expenses and if the employee is up-to-date with submission of their Sales Plan results. Large or unusual expenses to be preapproved.
